We have the privelege of hiring an ai-e ( a housekeeper and cook ). Just one day a week. She arrives at 9 am, and leaves around 6 pm. Cleans and organizes the house all day, and cooks for 2 hrs , cleans up, then goes home. She cooks meals for 2 days. Today and tomorrow...
I shopped with her this morning at the market and then proceeded with my day...
It’s quite the experience to watch her cook.
Today on the menu...
>>> Steamed rice (naturally)...
>>> Crab a la I’ve yet to figure that one out...
>>> Spareribs au steamed on a dinner plate with veggies on top...
>>> Chicken soup with chicken in it ... Yayyyyyy...
>>> And pork and veggies still not cooked yet... Hope she will cook them !!!!
She is still in the process of preparing and cooking so I will give you an update on my next blog...
But I really wanted to tell you that I am observing how she is doing all this...
The Crab... spent the day in my kitchen sink blowing bubbles.. what a scene...
I thought she would steam it or boil it.. BUT NO.. she decapitated it while it was alive... right in front of my eyes... I almost cried!!! But, I had to be brave.. so I didn’t...
She motioned (because she doesn’t speak a lick of english), that she was cracking it prior to cooking it so that it would be easy for us to eat : ~} Couldn’t she have done that after????Bizarre...
The Chicken.... chopped to a fine pulp.. save the fat ( I showed her my hips and she understood), removed the head and the feet , (thank goodness).... and is waiting quietly to be WOK’ed...
The Pork... sliced and diced so you have to figure out what part it was.. I’m am glad I’m observing.... There’s no funky buisiness...
And Veggies... all colors and shapes, finely and artfully chopped to accompany or cook with...I joke alot, but everything is in the presentation with them... When this meal hits the table, I sure it will be resplendiscent.
They work hard those Chinese...
Ooooof!!!! I’m tired.. I need a glass of wine... : )
So, I got my glass of wine.. It’s a cabernet sauvignon and the brand is “ The Great Wall”.. How fitting is that!!!!
And it’s not bad at all... Hits the spot...
I will let you know how it turned out.. If I am still living... Hahahaha...
Your word of the day...
Chi Fan. Pronounced “She Fawn” which means To Eat...
Pauline, To the table!!!!!!!!
