The truth about Ma Tong's...

By the way, that's your word of the day. TOILETS! Pronounced Ma Tong! Just as it's spelled...

What to say about toilets in China? Well, for all you men? You get away, scott free. You still have to stand up in front of your international urinal and feel your universal relief.. ahhhhhhh......I bet it feels as good as it ever did...

Girls? You don't get off so easily. No 1:you get to carry your toilet paper with you in your purse. In the grocery stores, they sell 24 packs of what we know as purse tissues. But guess what? Here it's for going to the toilet. (It's on my check list before leaving the house, keys>check, entry card>check, wallet>check, Toilet tissue>check!!!
But that's not all there is to it. 95% of the toilets here are Turkish! What does that mean??? It means that you better have been practicing your Yoga poses!!! (I knew I practiced Yoga on a regular basis for a reason...)

The Turkish toilets are basically a hole in the floor. The hole is made of ceramic, like a toilet. It has two spots for your feet that are anti slip, and a pedal that is for flushing, unlike a regular toilet. So if squatting and aiming is not your thing, I hope you have a biiiggggggg bladder. After a few weeks of practice, my aim is just about perfect, and my shoes stay dry!!!! I'm so glad the walls go right down to the floor, no peeking....

The funniest thing is, twice now, I've been to a regular loo, where they had signs above them, IN ENGLISH!!! That said, "FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY, PLEASE DONNOT SQUAT OR STAND ON THE TOILET". IN ENGLISH for crying out loud!!!!! Not a word of chinese on the sign!!!!!

Who do they think are the squatting experts???? The ex-pats???? The Americans??? The Canadians??? Maybe I ought to enlighten them... Hmmmmmmmmmm......

Anyway, we went to the island of Macau last weekend. Harry went to exchange some money, from RMB's(Chinese dollar) to MOB's (Macanese dollar), and guess what they gave him as a bonus??? A pack of toilet tissue... HeeHeeHeeeeeeeeee.....Needless to say, he handed it over to me with a big fat smile....

What a different world.. let me tell you, Im quite supple now..... ; ), and I still love China...

Bye for now... Bao lin ( my chinese name )
